Patiala, February 26
Patiala Member of Parliament Preneet Kaur today said she will write to the Central Government for inclusion of the Patiala-Sirhind stretch in the list of roads to be developed as the national highways.
The MP who visited the Patiala Media Club was accompanied by MC Mayor Sanjeev Sharma and Honey Sekhon, Officer on Special Duty, to the Chief Minister.
Preneet said she had met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari over the matter, but this particular road was left out of the list.
She said the Police Department needs to pull-up its socks to curb the menace of illicit egal iquor. “I will question the SSP as it also involves safety of women,” she said.
She said there is apprehension among the people over implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
She said during 10-year rule of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance, Punjab’s economy collapsed completely.
The MP said, “During the Congress’ tenure in 2007, Punjab was number one in industry. Farmers were getting remuneration of their produce on time and several big-ticket projects were started by us. However, the SAD-BJP government totally failed.”
She said efforts are on to make Patiala a heritage destination and the government is working on a project by including Amritsar, Anandpur Sahib and Patiala in heritage triangle to attract more visitors.
In response to a question on the recent melee in the Congress leadership involving officials of Local Bodies Department she said Brahm Mohindra had discussed the matter with her. “Brahm Mohindra is the minister of local bodies. He has the right to take decisions in the interest of development of the city.”
