Rusticated student reinstated after union stages protest
A student of the Government Mohindra College, who was rusticated for burning an effigy of the government to register a protest against the arrest of farmer union leaders and subsequent eviction of protesters at Shambhu and Khanauri borders, was reinstated today.
His rustication triggered a protest on the campus by activists of Punjab Student Union (PSU).
The student union got the hostel timings for girl students amended. The new timings are from 4 pm to 7 pm.
The PSU district secretary, Gurdas Singh, stated that the college administration suspended a student yesterday for protesting in support of farmers, which was a dictatorial order.
The union continued its protest for six hours today.
Student leader Gaganjit Kaur said the students also succeeded in getting fulfilled their other demands, such as extending the girls’ hostel timings to 7 pm.
