Patiala, June 1
Student outfits held a protest at Punjabi University today and sought more time for completion of syllabus and submit dissertations, which got affected during the lockdown imposed in the wake of the Covid-19.
The Punjab Student Union (Lalkar), Punjab Student Union (PSU), Democratic Students’ Organisation, Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and other outfits raised objections against the university’s direction to research scholars to submit research related documents by July 31.
Protesting students said, “People have lost jobs and businesses during the lockdown period. Instead of demanding special package from the government, Punjabi University is demanding fee from students. This is sheer injustice.”
They said the university’s decision to collect fee by June 8 should be revoked. “Classes should be conducted after reopening of the university while research scholars should be given more time to complete their research,” said Lakhwinder Singh of the PSU.
