The farmers are considering the lobbing of tear gas shells at them as their moral victory. For nearly a year, they were projected as villains for creating disorder at Shambhu border and leaving lakhs of commuters stranded due to the standoff with the Haryana Government.

After suspending the protest due to the rising injury toll, Sarwan Singh Pandher and Guramneet Singh Mangat said that the entire world had seen how the government at the Centre was treating farmers.

The Marjeevda Jatha was unarmed and was on foot. “It is our moral victory. We were accused of creating ruckus and asked to protest without tractors and trolleys. Today, people around the world have seen how the government has lobbed tear gas shells at unarmed farmers crossing the border on foot and heading to Delhi,” said Pandher.

The farm leaders said that they were being treated like enemies in their own country.

“Pepper spray was used on those who reach close to the fence. As the injuries rose, it was decided to suspend the Dilli Chalo protest till Sunday,” said Pandher.

Pandher has announced that farmers should launch a peaceful protest against BJP leaders of the state for not resolving the farm issue.

Farmer leaders said that they have submitted a memorandum of demands to the Superintendent of Police in Haryana and the march of the second batch of Marjeevda Jatha has been suspended till Sunday.

Pandher said they are ready for talks, preferably with Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, to end the current impasse.

As the situation was on the boil at Shambhu border, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party preferred to keep itself away from the action. AAP had burnt its fingers and was criticised for detaining Jagjit Singh Dallewal on November 26.
