Patiala, October 11
After getting two day police remand, the Vigilance Bureau (VB) would now be probing into assets of the Municipal Corporation (MC) inspector, who was arrested yesterday for demanding a bribe.
VB sleuths had arrested MC inspector Sunil Kumar Gulati for demanding Rs 25, 000 bribe from the complainant to open a shutter of the sealed building.
VB officials informed that they would investigate properties of inspector.
The VB has appealed that residents should come forward with information if inspector had reportedly taken bribe from them in the past.
A senior official of the VB said, “We will thoroughly look into properties and other assets of the inspector. He has been arrested following a particular complaint. However, we will investigate other complaints of corruption, if any, against the inspector.”
According to information, the MC Inspector, who had political patronage, was meddling into the functioning of another branch for which he had no authority.
Meanwhile, the Patiala Municipal Commissioner, Poonamdeep Kaur, said the Municipal Corporation would suspend inspector immediately. A special cell would be formed under the chairmanship of the Joint Commissioner to look into complaints related to the building branch, she added.
Earlier, the VB booked inspector under Section 7 and 7 (A), Prevention of the Corruption Act.
