Youth gets 20-year RI for raping minor

The fast-track special court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Narender on Saturday awarded 20-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) to a person for raping a 16-year-old girl. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 55,000 upon the convict.

District Attorney Suresh Khatri said that the matter was reported to the HSIIDC Barhi police on January 12, 2023. A woman of West Bengal in her complaint to the police said that her 16-year-old daughter was working in a factory in phase-1 of HSIIDC Barhi. She said that her daughter’s colleague, Navin of Budaun district of Uttar Pradesh, abducted her daughter on December 20, 2022. She searched for her daughter but couldn’t find her.

The HSIIDC Barhi police registered a case and recovered the girl on March 3, 2024. The police got her counselling done through legal aid and registered her statement. Then, they induced Section 6 of POCSO Act in the case. The police arrested Navin on April 30, 2024.

Khatri said that on the basis of evidence, the Fast Track Special Court (POCSO) on Saturday announced 20-year RI to Navin and imposed a fine of Rs 55,000 on him. The court has also directed to give Rs 45,000 out of the total fine to the victim, Khatri said.
