The Patiala police have nabbed four youngsters, including a minor, and recovered 19 stolen motorcycles from their possession.

While the minor aged 17 has been sent to an observation home in Ludhiana, others including Gurpyar Singh (21), Rupinder Singh (21), Harminder Singh (30) have been sent to judicial custoday for 14 days.

3 Royal enfields among recovered vehicles

  • The suspects used to come from their native place in Mansa district and were active in stealing two-wheelers from the city. After stealing them, they used to keep the bikes in their houses and their fields from where the police recovered them. The recovered two-wheelers include three Royal Enfield motorcycles and 16 others.

Rauni Singh, police post in-charge, Model Town, said the police checked the CCTV footage with the help of which the youngsters were identified. They were active in stealing two-wheelers in areas, including Leela Bhawan, Khalsa College and Punjabi University, here.

Rauni Singh said the police checked the CCTV footage of cameras installed near the Khalsa College where students of the college identified the youth.

“They used to come from their homes in Mansa district and were active in stealing two-wheelers from the city. They used to take them back with them. They had kept the stolen bikes in their houses and their fields from where we recovered them,” Rauni Singh said.

He said the recovered two-wheelers include three Royal Enfield motorcycles and 16 others.

Meanwhile, the police are also investigating the use of any vehicle in thefts. A police officer requesting anonymity said, “We are investigating the use and involvement of a four-wheeler by the boys in the thefts. It is still being verified.” The police said a case has been registered against the suspects.
