Ludhiana, January 16

There seems to be no relief for commuters and residents from broken city roads as the MC has failed to initiate any repair work. After a number of councillors raised the issue of potholed roads in their respective wards during the House meeting on December 31, it was announced in the MC House that cold bitumen will be purchased for patchwork on broken roads, but to no avail.

Loose gravels scattered on roads pose a threat to lives of commuters. Potholes appeared on Lakkar Bridge Road, Zila Parishad office Road, Giaspura, Focal Point, BRS Nagar, Phambran Road, Deepak Cinema Road, Haibowal, Model Town, Salem Tabri and various other areas are causing inconvenience to motorists.

Even more than two weeks after the House meeting, the residents are waiting for the MC to get these potholes repaired. Notably, the MC’s hot mix plant where the material to lay the patchwork is prepared, is closed due to winter season.

“It was announced at the last House meeting that the patchwork will be done with cold bitumen due to winter season as the hot mix plant is not functioning. But nothing has been done to get the roads repaired so far. The potholed roads in our ward are crying for attention. Despite our complaints, the issue is ignored by the civic body,” said Councillor from ward no. 2, Gurmail Singh Jajji.

Gaganpreet Singh, a resident, said: “The MC should remove the loose gravels from the broken roads as bikers often lose balance, which lead to accidents. These potholes should be filled at the earliest to avoid mishaps.”
