Faridkot, February 24

To promote cycling, six youngsters of Kotkapura and Faridkot on Monday completed their 600-km journey in 40 hours. After completing their journey on cycles from Faridkot to Rohtak and back to the town, district administration officials received them.

“Like all other exercises, the habit of cycling should be inculcated in kids. Earlier, school and college students used to do a lot of cycling. Now, most of the children, even in the age group of 10 to 15 years, give preference to gearless two-wheelers such as Activa and Pep scooters. If we create awesomeness about its benefits, I think children will attract towards cycling,” said DC Kumar Saurabh Raj.

During the cycle expedition, Aneesh Goyal, Vikas Goyal, Gurdeep Singh Kaler, Ravi Kumar, Gurpreet Singh and Gursewak Singh Purba distributed pamphlets among people, highlighting the advantages of cycling for health and environment.

They said construction of separate lanes on all main roads should be made mandatory in the national transport policy as heavy traffic poses a risk to cyclists and pedestrians. They added that there should be cycle parking spots at major places and the government should provide rebate on high-end cycles, which are comfort in riding and light weight.
