A team of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) was manhandled by several persons at Nave Naag village falling under the Majitha police station here three days ago. They had gone to sever the power connection of defaulters when the incident took place.

Hardev Singh, a resident of Majitha Road, posted as a Junior Engineer in Majitha subdivision, told the police that he, along with his team members, had gone to Nave Naag village for disconnecting the power connections of certain consumers who had not paid their outstanding power bills.

He said as they were going to remove power meters, the accused entered into a scuffle and used abusive language. They snatched the power cables from them and did not let them perform their duties. They also detained them.

On his statement, the Majitha police have booked Sabi Pardhan, Nikki and Tony, all residents of the same village, for obstructing a public servant from discharging his duty, assaulting a public servant and illegally detaining them.

Two jail inmates thrashed

Two jail inmates were booked for allegedly attacking two other prisoners here on Monday. The suspects have been identified as Manjit Singh of Tarn Taran and Ghaniya Lal of Gurdaspur.

Assistant Superintendent of Jail Gurbachan Singh told the police that the suspects had a spat with Deepak Singh and Shubhdeep Singh in room no. 7 of barrack no. 3 and they thrashed them.

A case under Section 52 of the Prisons Act has been registered against them.

Two booked for sneaking cigarettes into jail

The police have booked two persons for allegedly sneaking 115 cigarettes into the jail. The suspects have been identified as Jasvir Singh Bakshi and Ramandeep Singh Bakshi, both residents of Zirakpur.

According to information, Jasvir had come to meet Ramandeep, who is lodged in the jail. During a checking, the police seized the prohibited material from Jasvir. Though a case was registered against both of them, Jasvir was released on bail.

Restaurant worker thrashed; 4 booked

An employee of a restaurant near Celebration Shopping Mall was kidnapped and thrashed by four persons here late on Monday evening over a dispute with his brother.

The victim was identified as Gulshan Thakur. The police have booked the four suspects, including Kaka Kirach of New Pawan Nagar area, Harry of Pawan Nagar and Baba Chiri of Joura Phatak area.

Thakur stated to the police that he came out of the restaurant to buy cigarettes from a kiosk near the office of the Public Works Department. A car came from behind and the persons travelling in it came out and started thrashing him. He said one of them, Baba Chiri, threw a brick at his head, leaving him injured. They bundled him in the car and sped away. They threatened to eliminate him and dumped him near Verka overbridge from where he was taken to a hospital by the members of his family.

Thakur said a dispute between his brother Vicky and Kaka Kirach was the reason behind the attack. The police have registered a case. No arrests have been made as of now.

Man arrested with adulterated sweets

Tarn Taran: The police arrested a man and seized adulterated sweets from his possession on the Tarn Taran-Dialpur road near Daleke village on Monday.

The suspect has been identified as Talwinder Singh of the Plasaur Road area.

Investigating officer ASI Harpal Singh said 1.15 quintals of adulterated sweets were seized from the car in which the suspect was travelling. The ASI said Talwinder was going to villages to sell the adulterated sweets.

A case under Section 307 of the IPC has been registered against the suspect. It is for the first time in the district that a man has been booked under this section of the IPC. — OC
