Members of the 1984 Sikh Katle-Aam Peerit Welfare Society today slammed the Central and state government for failing to provide them justice even after 36 years of the anti-Sikh riots and delay in implementation of several relief and rehabilitation measures announced by successive governments.

In a memorandum submitted to Governor VP Singh Badnore, president of the society, Surjit Singh, and women wing president, Gurdeep Kaur, said numerous culprits behind the massacre are still roaming free.

They urged the Governor to intervene and asked the Central Government to book the remaining miscreants.

Members said 27,000 families, which are settled in Ludhiana and elsewhere in the state should be given a grant of Rs 5 lakh each on the pattern of Delhi.

“Riot victims and their families should be given 400 units of free electricity free every month, remit school fee of their children and release Rs 2 lakh grant to each affected families which has been withheld by the state government,” read the memorandum.

Surjit and Gurdeep made a strong plea for allotment of constructed houses of 62 sq yards each in Ludhiana and Mohali to the anti-Sikh riot victims, as per directions of the Supreme Court.

The duo focused on the plight of 163 victims and their dependents whose red cards were cancelled on the basis of false complaints by certain vested interests. Members urged the Governor to take a decision in this regard at the earliest.
