A day after The Tribune exposed faux pas on Punjab Police's Community Policing Resource Centre website, illegal occupations such as 'smuggler, killer, prostitute, etc.' were on Wednesday removed from the portal.

These illegal occupations which were there on the police Saanjh Kendra, www.ppsaanjh.in, till yesterday night, were not found there today.

Asked why these options were removed from the police Saanjh portal today, ADGP, Community Policing, Punjab, Ishwar Singh said these options were not taken off by police portal but got removed automatically.

The ADGP added that these occupations were not updated by Saanjh team rather these were being updated automatically through the Crime and Criminal Tracking Networks and Systems (CCTNS) portal.

When further asked why some illegal occupations only, including 'smuggler', 'hired killer', 'drug trafficker', 'bootlegger', 'gambler', 'prostitute' and 'pimp', got removed from the portal today, the ADGP reiterated that police Sanjh portal has been integrated with the CCTNS portal for the past one year which is a national project. Due to the integration only, these occupations were automatically showing up during the tenant verification process, he added.

Asked whether police will make efforts to ensure that these options may not show up on the tenant verification site again, the ADGP said police have no control over this issue.

Yesterday, when the ADGP was asked how illegal trades can be treated as occupations for tenant verification, he had said an applicant having a criminal record related to the occupation can select the specific option listed on the site during the online tenant verification process.
