17 policemen with ‘poor record’ given compulsory retirement

Following orders of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to retire employees with poor record, at least 17 policemen have been compulsorily retired from service in Moga district, senior police officials confirmed here today.

A screening committee headed by SP (H) Rattan Singh Brar, comprising DSPs Jaspal Singh Dhillon and Varinder Singh as members, looked into the performance of more than 2,000 employees of the police department posted here.

They identified 17 cops who were not doing their duty properly. Some of them were physically unfit and facing criminal cases. The other allegations against these cops included misbehaviour, non-adherence of service rules and taking excessive leave.

According to the details, at least 10 policemen were found absent from duty or came to duty in a drunken state, while seven others were not physically fit to perform their duties.

A report in this regard was sent to SSP Amarjit Singh Bajwa, who formally issued the orders of compulsory retirement.

The seven Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) Jarnail Singh (highway patrolling), Shinder Pal Singh (toll plaza), Harmel Singh (security guard with Deputy Commissioner), Lakhvir Singh (Charik police station), Surinder Kumar (traffic wing) and Jarnail Singh (Kot-ise-Khan police station), who have been retired from the service, were enjoying local ranks without any confirmation from the police or Home Department.

They were head constables, but with political clout or good relations with senior police authorities, despite shady service history. They managed to get local ranks subject to confirmation.

All these employees will be given post-retirement benefits as per the service rules in accordance to the period of their service.
