2 arrested in Moga, with 59 kg of poppy husk, smuggled in XUV

One of the accused is a repeat offender, with at least two cases registered against him under the NDPS Act

Moga City Police, on Wednesday, arrested two individuals after recovering 59 kilograms of poppy husk from their vehicle.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted a special checking operation.

During the patrol, the police intercepted a black Mahindra XUV in a deserted area of MP Basti Landeke here.

Upon searching the vehicle, the police recovered 59 kg of poppy husk hidden inside. The occupants of the car were immediately taken into custody.

They have been identified as Vicky Ram, a resident of Mandi Gobindgarh and Vishal Pandey, a resident of New Delhi.

The police have registered a case against both suspects under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Moga City Police Station.

According to police records, Vicky is a repeat offender with at least two previous cases registered against him under the NDPS Act.

DSP Jatinder Singh said the accused will be presented in court to seek police remand.

Investigators aim to interrogate the suspects to uncover the source of the contraband and identify the intended recipients of the drug consignment.
