2 get 10-yr jail for selling drugs

MOGA: A woman drug peddler of Daulewala village in the district has been sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment by the District and Sessions Court on having being found guilty of selling intoxicant powder (chitta) to local youths.

A woman drug peddler of Daulewala village in the district has been sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment by the District and Sessions Court on having being found guilty of selling intoxicant powder (chitta) to local youths.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Charanjit Arora, while pronouncing the orders, also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on her. If the convict failed to deposit the fine, she would have to undergo another one year in jail.

A middle-aged woman, Balwinder Kaur, alias Bindi, was rounded up by the local police on August 16, 2016. During a search by policewomen, at least 200 gm of “chitta” was recovered from her. A case under the NDPS Act was registered against her at the Fatehgarh police station.

In another case, the Additional District and Sessions Judge of Moga Tarsem Mangla has sentenced a drug smuggler to 10 years of imprisonment, besides imposing a fine of Rs 1 lakh on him. If the convict failed to deposit the fine, he would have to undergo another two years in jail.

The Moga police recovered 90 kg of poppy husk from a drug smuggler, Surinder Singh, alias Soni, resident of Darapur village in Nakodar subdivision of Jalandhar district, while he was selling the contraband to customers at Kot Sadar Khan village in Dharamkot subdivision of the district.

A case under the NDPS Act was registered against Soni at the Dharamkot police station.
