Justice Nirmaljit Kaur and Justice Ravi Ranjan were on Tuesday administered oath as judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court by Chief Justice Krishna Murari. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by sitting and retired judges of the high court, bureaucrats, relatives and advocates.

Justice Nirmaljit Kaur was transferred back to the Punjab and Haryana High Court from Rajasthan High Court after about six years, while Justice Ranjan was transferred from the Patna High Court.

The transfer orders came just about a month after the Supreme Court collegium comprising Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, Justice MB Lokur, Justice Kurian Joseph, Justice AK Sikri and Justice SA Bobde recommended the same.

The total number of judges, with their transfer, has gone up to 54 against the sanctioned strength of 85. It is one short of the 55 mark the High Court touched a few years ago before transfers and retirements brought the number down.
