2K-kg poppy husk seized, one nabbed

The police today seized 2,021 kg of poppy husk by intercepting a truck on the Hanumangarh mega highway. The consignment was concealed under bags of dry vegetables, the police said.

Following a tip-off, a truck (RJ 14GB 2485) was intercepted. On its search, the police found 129 bags having 2,021 kg of poppy husk valued at Rs 25 lakh. The driver managed to flee, while cleaner Bachan Ram Bishnoi (27) of Lohawat area was arrested.

Driver Mangi Lal Bishnoi of Phalodi in Jodhpur district has also been booked under the NDPS Act. The consignment was to be delivered to someone in Jodhpur, preliminary investigation indicated.

In another case, the police seized 16 kg of poppy husk and 300 gm of opium milk from a truck (PB 11CB 1646) and arrested driver Gurpreet Singh (31) of Harpalpur village in Ghanaur tehsil in Patiala under the NDPS Act.
