The police today took into custody head constable Kuldeep Singh and constables Sarwan Singh and Sukhdev Singh, against whom non-bailable warrants were issued by the District and Sessions’ Court for not appearing as prosecution witnesses in a drug seizure case.

They had been “absconding” for the past over a month after the Punjab and Haryana High Court ordered to take them into protective custody for failing to appear in the court. The HC had also refused to grant anticipatory bail to them.

Additional District and Sessions’ Judge Sonia Kinra had issued non-bailable warrants against them. They were also suspended from the service.

Today, the cops appeared before a local court, which ordered to send them to judicial custody. The police first took these cops into custody, formally arrested them and then sent them to a local jail.

As per the court record, the cops had been skipping court proceedings for the past over two years thus delaying the process of trial.
