Moga, June 23

The police have arrested three smugglers and recovered 500 grams of opium and 800 intoxicating pills from them in separate cases.

Moga SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana said a drug smuggler identified as Manjit Singh, a resident of Booh village in Tarn Taran, was arrested from Mehna village. He was driving a motorcycle when the cops stopped him for checking. During search, around 500-gm opium was recovered from him. Preliminary investigations revealed that he had gone to Mehna to sell the contraband to his customers.

A criminal case under Sections 18, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against him. In another incident, the police have arrested two drug smugglers, Jassa Singh of Jaimalwala village and Ram Singh of Lande village. Cops recovered 500 intoxicating pills and 300 intoxicating pills from the duo.

Two separate cases under Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act have been registered against them at Kot-ise-Khan and Ajitwal police stations, respectively.
