3 from Nawanshahr killed in road accident in Karnal

KARNAL: Three persons were killed when the ill-fated car they were travelling in collided with a truck on the National Highway 44 near Uchani village on Tuesday morning.

Three persons were killed when the ill-fated car they were travelling in collided with a truck on the National Highway 44 near Uchani village on Tuesday morning.

Earlier, the ill-fated car was hit by an unidentified vehicle, due to which driver lost control and the car crossed the divider.

The deceased, all in their 30s, have been identified as Baldev Singh, and Harjot Singh, residents of Ludhiana Chowk, Jalandhar, and Manjeet Singh, resident of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar Atari in Punjab, said Vijay Kumar, investigation officer (IO) of Sadar police station.

Manjeet and Baldev Singh were relatives while Harjot Singh was the driver of the car.

Manjeet and Baldev went to drop their relative at Delhi airport and they were returning to Punjab.

At around 6 am, when they reached near Uchani, an unidentified vehicle hit their car and it collided with a truck on the other side of the highway after crossing the centre divider, he added.

Baldev and Harjot died on the spot, while Manjeet was declared dead by the doctors at Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College (KCGMC), the IO said.

The accident was so severe that the car got mangled and the engine of the car was found at a distance.

“We have registered a case against the unidentified vehicle driver under Section 279 and 304A,” he said.
