Rs 39.5-crore aid given by Punjab to kin of farmers who died during Delhi protest

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has said the state government has provided Rs 39.55-crore assistance to families of 789 farmers, who died during the protest at the Delhi borders against the now-repealed agricultural laws.

Each family had received Rs 5 lakh, the CM said in a statement.

About Rs 5.85 crore has been given to 117 families in Sangrur, Rs 5.55 crore to 111 families in Patiala, Rs 4.60 crore to 89 families in Mansa district, Rs 4.15 crore to 83 families in Bathinda, Rs 3.45 crore to 69 families in Moga, Rs 50 lakh to 10 families in Fazilka, Rs 2.37 crore to 48 families in Ludhiana, Rs 2.15 crore to 43 families in Barnala, Rs 1.05 crore to 21 families in Tarn Taran, Rs 95 lakh to 19 families in Amritsar, Rs 35 lakh to seven families in Nawanshahr and Rs 50 lakh to 10 families in Mohali.

Besides, the government has provided Rs 1.73 crore to 35 families in Muktsar, Rs 1 crore to 20 families in Gurdaspur, Rs 1.5 crore to 30 families in Faridkot, Rs 1.2 crore to 24 families in Fatehgarh Sahib, Rs 60 lakh to 12 families in Jalandhar, Rs 75 lakh to 15 families in Ferozepur, Rs 50 lakh to 10 families in Hoshiarpur, Rs 5 lakh to one family in Kapurthala, Rs 20 lakh to four families in Malerkotla, and Rs 55 lakh to 11 families in Ropar.

Mann said the state government was duty-bound to safeguard the interests of farmers and their families. “Every promise made to farmers will be fulfilled,” he said.

Mann reiterated his government’s commitment to bail farmers out of the agrarian crisis.
