Pathankot, November 22

Keeping in view the threat perception along the Pathankot-Jammu national highway, the Punjab Police today installed a Rs 40 lakh 3D X-ray scanner at Madhopur on the outskirts of the city.

The machine, which will facilitate scanning of containers and other goods, was a long pending demand of the police as the district shares its border with J&K.

Surinder Pal Singh Parmar, IG (Border), said the machine was needed as the highway was strategically importance. Sources said chances of terrorists sneaking into J&K and then making their way into the district always remained high.

Deepak Hilori, SSP, said, “The 3D images will enable an operator to see goods with much clarity.” The border at Bamial has been heavily fortified since three Pakistani utras crossed over and attacked Dinanagar police station on June 27, 2015. — TNS
