5 arrested, 14 stolen bikes recovered

Abohar/Sriganganagar, June 10

With the arrest of Buta Singh (21), a drug addict of Panjawa village, near Abohar, the police have solved 20 incidents of bike thefts. Four persons, who had reportedly purchased the stolen property, have also been held. Three of them belonged to the India-Pakistan border belt and one to Abohar. The police have recovered 14 bikes.

Superintendent of Police Rajan Dushyant said Buta Singh (21) was addicted to drugs. He was nabbed after a team led by ASI Ramesh Chander examined CCTV footage from the places of thefts. The accused admitted to stealing 20 motorcycles in the past few days. Investigation indicated Buta Singh had reportedly lost most of his agricultural land due to drug addiction.

After interrogation, Sandeep Singh, Rajwinder Singh and Gurcharan and Mandeep Singh were also arrested. — OC
