The City-1 police claimed to have arrested five suspected members of a gang involved in a string of roadside robberies in Abohar. Sharp weapons were also recovered from their possession.
The police have registered a case against six individuals, including the gang leader who is at large, under Sections 310 (4) and 310 (5) of the BNS.
Station House Officer Ravinder Singh said while patrolling Sunday night, they got a tip-off that some suspects were planning a major crime with at Street No. 7 of Panjpir Nagar.
During the raid, the police arrested five suspects -- Akashdeep, Manga Singh, Veeru Singh, Rafi Masih, all residents of Ajit Nagar, and Suraj of Dangarkhera village. Jasleen Masih, alias Binny, who is the kingpin of the gang, remains at large.
The police recovered a spade, a sword, a khanda, a spear tied to an iron pipe, an axe, and a bike from them. They will be rigorously interrogated to determine their crime history.
Meanwhile, City-2 police arrested three miscreants and recovered a silver bracelet and mobile phone that they had looted from Netik Kumar Saturday night from near a religious Dera. The accused were identified as Vikas Sujal Mota and Honey Rana of Arya Nagar and Varun Kaka of Thakur Abadi here. A case was registered under Sections 304(2), 126(2), 3(5) of the BNS.
