The state government has announced projects worth Rs 52 crore to tackle floods in Anandpur Sahib. Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains said the aim was to secure several vulnerable villages located along the banks of the Sutlej and Swan.

“A fast-track plan has been designed. It will give major relief to the residents living along the Sutlej and Swan. The safety of our people is non-negotiable. Last year’s floods taught us a hard lesson,” he said.

“Works worth Rs 52 crore have already commenced. Additional projects worth Rs 30 crore are also in the pipeline,” he said. The projects entail construction of revetments spanning more than 11,000 feet. Dasgrain and Mahain villages will get Rs 1 crore; Harsa Bela village will receive Rs 9 crore for construction of a 2,200-foot revetment with upgraded design specifications.

Similarly, Mehndli Kalan village will get a new 1,800- foot revetment costing over Rs 8.75 crore, Agampur village will get 3,200-foot revetment worth Rs 12 crore.

A 700-foot revetment will be constructed at Burj village at the cost of Rs 7 crore. Similarly, a 700-foot revetment with Rs 3.5 crore will be constructed at Ajauli, while Lodhipur will be protected with a 2,000- foot revetment. In addition, flood protection works have also been approved for Bhalan and Triveni Mandir Nangran villages.
