The Health Department has found dengue larvae at 9,000 homes in Hoshiarpur district, which leads the state with 78 cases. A total of 150 dengue cases have been reported in four districts of Doaba so far.
In September 2023, Kapurthala was the second worst affected district after Bathinda in terms of dengue cases. Of 150 dengue cases, 78 have been reported in Hoshiarpur, 33 in Jalandhar, 32 in Kapurthala and seven in Nawanshahr.
Hoshiarpur Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal said, “Since dengue mosquito thrives in fresh standing water, the presence of water bodies, including rivulets in Hoshiarpur, and its periphery may be behind the cases. Most of the cases reported this year are from urban or peri-urban areas of the district.”
Hoshiarpur Civil Surgeon Pawan Kumar said, “A total of 100 breeding checkers have been pushed into service to keep tabs on dengue cases. Door-to-door surveys are being conducted daily by the health teams. Fogging is also being done by the MC teams.”
Dr Jagdeep Singh, Epidemiologist, Hoshiarpur, said, “Of the 35,000 houses surveyed, health teams found larvae at 9,000 places.”
