AAP misused state machinery to win elections, alleges Congress
The Congress on Sunday alleged that Punjab’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party has “misused” the state machinery to win the mayoral poll held recently in the state.
The allegation came amid controversy over the mayoral elections in Amritsar and Phagwara, where the ruling party emerged victorious despite having won less number of seats than the Congress in civic body elections on December 21.
Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring alleged that family members of the Congress councillors were “harassed by the police at the behest of AAP leaders”.
While commenting on the victory of AAP in the mayoral election in Phagwara, the Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, said AAP claimed victory even without having sufficient numbers to win the poll.
Meanwhile, Punjab AAP chief Aman Arora said the Phagwara mayoral poll was conducted on the guidelines of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
“The poll was overseen by Justice (retd) Harbans Lal. Earlier, during the Amritsar mayoral elections, the Congress created a lot of commotion and drama, but the High Court dismissed their appeal. The Congress party is facing defeat across Punjab, which is troubling them,” he said.
