Abohar MLA joins sanitation workers’ stir

ABOHAR: BJP legislator Arun Narang today participated in a protest staged by Municipal Council safai sewaks (sanitation workers) ruing non-payment of salary for the past six months.

Abohar, July 8

BJP legislator Arun Narang today participated in a protest staged by Municipal Council safai sewaks (sanitation workers) ruing non-payment of salary for the past six months. The stir was launched on June 28. Accompanied by a few SAD and BJP activists, Narang visited the council complex where the workers were staging a dharna.

Narang, who had also been a member of the council and his resignation was accepted on May 31, slammed the state government for the “sad state of affairs” in the council.

He alleged that the administration was working as a puppet in the hands of the ruling party and made no efforts to arrange funds to pay pending salary to the staff. All main roads had emerged as garbage dumps due to the strike for which government was responsible, he claimed.

District Youth Congress ex-president Sandeep Jakhar said the BJP-SAD alliance was in majority in the Municipal Council for the past about nine years and had been running its affairs in such a way that the council has no money to pay salary. It’s funny that Narang was blaming the government now. — TNS
