Abohar waterlogged after incessant rain, farmers worried about cotton crop
Abohar, August 29
Abohar town and its neighbouring village have been receiving incessant rain for the last 24 hours, causing waterlogging in many areas, including the Sub-divisional Administrative Complex. Farmers in the surrounding villages are worried about the cotton crop as fields are submerged.
Intermittent rain continued during the day, due to which many areas of the city were waterlogged. Water accumulated in the administrative offices caused problems to the staff and visitors. Rainwater entered dozens of houses in Jain Nagar and other colonies. Waterlogging was also seen on Sahitya Sadan Road, Sitto Road, Children’s Park, Circular Road and outside Lala Lajpat Rai Market and Patel Park.
People said that the state government had shifted the divisional office of Punjab Water Supply Sewerage Board and left only junior engineers in Abohar. No budget or heavy equipment was provided to clean the main sewage lines before monsoon season.
The roof of a house in Jammu Basti collapsed due to rain yesterday. Vicky, his wife, mother and one-year-old child were stuck under the debris and were rescued by their neighbours.
