Abohar’s Manik Tandon dies in Vrindavan boat tragedy, death toll reaches 11

A youth from Abohar, Manik Tandon, was among those killed in the boat capsizing incident in Vrindavan on Friday, taking the death toll to 11.

Manik’s body was recovered from the river early Saturday morning, leaving his family devastated. He is survived by his mother and a sister, and his wedding had been scheduled for September. News of his death sent a wave of grief through the Nai Abadi area of Abohar.

The 25-year-old was the son of Vijay Tandon, a resident of Street 15 in Nai Abadi. His father had passed away when Manik was just two years old. He worked as a salesman with a steel manufacturing company. His elder sister lives in Ferozepur.

According to his neighbour, Vipan Sharma, Manik had gone to his aunt’s house in Jagraon before leaving for Vrindavan with his cousin, Madhur Behal. Both died when a motorboat capsized at KC Ghat on the Yamuna River on Friday.

While Madhur’s body was recovered on Friday, Manik’s body was retrieved on Saturday morning. Upon receiving the news, his elderly mother was left shattered and immediately left for her sister’s home in Jagraon.

Abohar MLA Sandeep Jakhar said residents were deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the Vrindavan incident, most of them from Punjab.
