Accused in hit-and-run case, judicial officer dies in Hoshiarpur
Following allegations of police negligence and bias in the investigation by the deceased's family, the Supreme Court had transferred the case from Punjab to Delhi in October 2025
A judicial officer, Pankaj Garg, serving as Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMIC), passed away in Hoshiarpur on Wednesday.
Garg hailed from Kalanwali town in Sirsa district of Haryana. He had been serving in the judicial services and was posted in Hoshiarpur. A senior police official said that the probable cause of death was cardiac arrest.
Garg was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run case that occurred in February 2025 near Phagwara. The case involved a Hyundai Creta that allegedly struck and killed a motorcyclist.
Following allegations of police negligence and bias in the investigation by the deceased's family, the Supreme Court had transferred the case from Punjab to Delhi in October 2025.
The authorities are yet to release detailed information regarding the circumstances surrounding Garg’s death. Further details are awaited. Meanwhile, the police had blocked the entrance of the judicial complex and no one was allowed to enter. The district bar association suspended the day's work.
