The growing number of active Covid-19 cases is a matter of concern for the state government, with the active cases’ figure crossing the 25,000 mark.
56 dead in 24 hrs, Bhattal tests +ve
Chandigarh: The state reported 3,119 fresh cases in the past 24 hours, including former CM Rajinder Kaur Bhattal. As many as 56 persons died during the period. In terms of deaths, Hoshiarpur topped with 12, followed by Jalandhar (8); Amritsar (7); Patiala (6); Ludhiana (4); Kapurthala and Sangrur (3 each); Barnala, Bathinda; SAS Nagar, Tarn Taran and Ferozepur (2 each); Gurdaspur, Faridkot, and Fazilka (1 each). Punjab is now among the six worst-affected states in the country when it comes to active cases. Till mid February, the number was around 2,000.
As per the latest health bulletin, Punjab’s active caseload stands at 26,389. At present, the country has 9.38 lakh active cases. Maharashtra tops with 5.01 lakh active cases, followed by Chhattisgarh (58,883), Karnataka (49,254), Kerala (33,619), Tamil Nadu (30,131).
Though all neighbouring states have witnessed
a spike in active Covid
cases, their caseload has remained much lower than that of Punjab. In Haryana, the number of active
cases stands at 17,129, followed by Jammu and Kashmir (5,623), Himachal Pradesh (4,513) and Chandigarh (3,115).
