Adampur reeled at 1 degrees Celsius as cold wave swept Punjab and Haryana on Thursday. 

The minimum temperatures hovered a few notches below normal limits in the two states, Meteorological (Met) Department officials here said.

While Adampur was the coldest place in Punjab, among other places in the state which were under the grip of severe chill included Ludhiana, Bathinda, Amritsar, Faridkot and Halwara, which recorded respective minimum temperatures of 2.4 degrees Celsius, 2 degrees Celsius, 2.4 degrees Celsius, 2.6 degrees Celsius and 2.4 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Patiala and Pathankot, too, experienced a cold night recording lows of 3.4 degrees Celsius and 4.6 degrees Celsius.

Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states, recorded a low of 5.2 degrees Celsius.

Hisar in Haryana was the coldest place in the state recording a low of 2.2 degrees Celsius while Narnaul and Karnal also braved severe chill with minimum temperatures of 2.3 degrees Celsius and 2.6 degrees Celsius.

Biting cold also swept Sirsa, Rohtak, Bhiwani and Ambala, which recorded lows of 3 degrees Celsius, 3.2 degrees Celsius, 4.4 degrees Celsius and 4.4 degrees Celsius, respectively.

The MeT officials said that fog reduced visibility at many places in the two states in the morning, including Chandigarh. —PTI
