Narinderpal Singh Ninda, who was previously a prominent leader within the Congress party, switched allegiance to the ruling AAP.
Along with the president, several other local leaders and supporters also joined the party.
The leaders were officially welcomed into the party fold by local MLA Gurdit Singh Sekhon.
This move comes at a crucial time as political parties in Punjab are gearing up for the Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat elections.
Losing the sitting president of a Municipal Council is considered a "major blow" to the Congress party’s local infrastructure and influence.
