Mohali, December 14

Akali leader Dyal Singh Kolianwali, a former member of the Punjab Subordinate Service Selection Board (PSSSB), surrendered in the court of Mohali Chief Judicial Magistrate here this evening.

He was accompanied by his counsel at the time of surrender. As the sleuths of Punjab Vigilance Bureau could not turn up with required documents, the court remanded Kolianwali in judicial custody for 14 days. He has been lodged in Patiala Jail.

The state Vigilance Bureau had booked Kolianwali, a close aide of former CM Parkash Singh Badal, on July 1 for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Kolianwali had also served as Chairman of the Punjab Agro Foodgrains Corporation during Badal’s regime.

Talking to reporters at the court complex, Kolianwali’s counsel claimed his client was falsely implicated in a politically motivated case.

The Mohali district court had rejected Kolianwali’s bail plea on December 6 after dismissal of his anticipatory bail plea on November 30.
