Anandpur Sahib SDO alleges corruption in Ropar mining wing
Matter forwarded to the Chief Engineer (Drainage) for inquiry
Serious allegations of large-scale corruption have surfaced in the drainage-cum-mining wing of Ropar district. A Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) has accused senior officials of collecting money from miners and crusher owners and misusing government schemes. In a complaint addressed to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Navpreet Singh, SDO, Water Resources Department, at Anandpur Sahib, has alleged that corruption is rampant in the Ropar mining circle.
According to the complaint, around Rs 20 lakh per month is allegedly collected from crusher owners alone at the Senior Sub-divisional and district level to facilitate illegal mining. The SDO further claimed that money was being illegally collected from vehicles entering Punjab through interstate check posts. He alleged that only a small number of vehicles were officially ticketed, while others were allowed to pass through unauthorised routes.
Taking cognisance of the complaint, the Principal Secretary, Water Resources Department, has forwarded the matter to the Chief Engineer (Drainage) for inquiry. —TNS
