Kabaddi player Arvinderjit Singh was shot dead in Kapurthala on Thursday night.

An ASI and his associate were arrested after Kabaddi player Arvinderjit Singh was shot dead in Kapurthala on Thursday night. 

ASI Paramjit Singh and his associate Mangu have been arrested by the Kapurthala police. The ASI has been dismissed from service.

The ASI had an altercation with six young men in a car at the Lakhan Ke Padde village at 10 pm on Thursday. Following this, the ASI fired at Arvinderjit Singh from his .32 bore licensed weapon. Singh received a bullet injury and died on the spot. The deceased's associate, Pardeep, was injured in the incident. 

Arvinderjit and the ASI's associate are residents of the Lakhan Ke Padde village. The ASI is resident of Bamuwal village in Kapurthala. 

An FIR under sections 302 and 307, 34 of the IPC and the Arms Act have been registered at the Subhanpur police station against the ASI and his associate.

The weapon and the vehicle have been recovered by the police and further investigation is on, said police officials.

SSP Kapurthala Satinder Singh said, "The two groups had an altercation over the parked car of the ASI near the village. After the altercation got heated, the ASI shot the Kabaddi player. Both the ASI and his associate have been arrested. Further investigation is on."

The postmortem of the body of the deceased is being conducted.
