ASI dies in hit-&-run mishap, cremated with state honours at Amargarh village

ASI Harpreet Singh (53), who was killed in a hit-and-run case when he was returning home after completing his duty at the city 1 police station on Tuesday night, was cremated with state honours at his native village at Boolapur in Amargarh subdivision today.

The FIR in the case was registered on the basis of the statement of the brother of the deceased, Inderjit Singh. The complaint was registered against an unidentified truck driver at the Ahmedgarh Sadar police station. The complainant said his brother, Harpreet Singh, was travelling on his motorcycle near the Chhokran bus stand when a speeding truck hit his bike. He said Harpreet succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

Harpreet Singh is survived by his widow and two sons who are settled in Canada. The police said he enjoyed a good rapport among his seniors and colleagues. Cops supervised by SSP Gagan Ajit Singh laid wreaths on the body as a token of last respect on behalf of the state police.
