Awareness campaign organised for PM Surya Ghar Yojna launched
The administration has launched a campaign to raise awareness among residents about the importance of utilising non-conventional sources of energy. Residents are urged to take advantage of the ‘Prime Minister Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojna’ and install rooftop solar panels in their homes, benefiting from subsidies on installation costs.
Social and constitutional organisations, along with their office bearers and activists, have been asked to serve as intermediaries between the beneficiaries and those executing the scheme, which was recently launched by the Union Government.
Deputy Commissioner Pallavi said organised efforts had been made to inform residents in Malerkotla, Amargarh and Ahmedgarh about the available facilities under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojna. She said the scheme, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 15, aims to promote sustainable development and improve the wellbeing of citizens.
“Having received details about the scheme, we have instructed SDMs in all three subdivisions to organize workshops and seminars to raise awareness about the importance of using non-conventional energy sources, such as solar power, for household consumption,” said Pallavi. She also praised councillors, sarpanches and social activists for stepping forward to help spread the word about the initiative.
Harwinder Singh Dhiman, Additional Superintendent Engineer at Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, said technical feasibility requirements had been waived for households installing solar panels with a capacity of up to 10 kW. He said eligible residents can receive the following subsidies —Rs 30,000 for installations up to 2 kW, Rs 18,000 for additional capacity between 2-3 kW and Rs 78,000 for systems over 3 kW capacity.
To support the initiative, the administration has appointed a nodal officer to handle requests for installing solar panels under the scheme. The officer may be contacted at 9646129246 and interested residents may apply online through the official portal [http://www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in](http://www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in).

Launched by PM Modi in February, the scheme is expected to benefit one crore households by providing up to 300 units of free electricity per month. The total investment for the project is over Rs 75,000 crore.
At the time of the launch, PM Modi emphasised the scheme’s role in driving sustainable development and improving the quality of life for citizens, “This project, with an investment of over Rs 75,000 crore, aims to light up 1 crore households by providing up to 300 units of free electricity every month,” he had said.
