Punjab Minister Harjot Singh Bains launches cricket league to boost outreach

In an attempt to connect with people of his constituency ahead of the state Assembly poll, Punjab Minister Harjot Singh Bains on Monday launched Anandpur Sahib Premier League.

The event was launched at the cricket stadium of the Bhakra Beas Management Board in Nangal. Nearly 2,500 players of 161 teams are participating in the tournament.

Each of the 161 teams has been provided with specially designed jerseys. The minister has announced substantial incentives. A cash award of Rs 10 lakh will be given to the village of the winning team, while the winning team itself will receive Rs 1.5 lakh.

The opening ceremony was marked by the presence of several prominent personalities, including MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, Punjab Cricket Association Secretary Bunty Bains, singer Ravneet and actress Diljot. The tournament will be held till May 5.
