MOGA: The police on Wednesday claimed to have solved the bank burglary within 48 hours with the arrest of three accused, including a Class-IV employee of the bank.



MOGA: The police on Wednesday claimed to have solved the bank burglary within 48 hours with the arrest of three accused, including a Class-IV employee of the bank. The burglary took place in the Bank of India here on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday when three burglars decamped with Rs 17.65 lakh and 18 packets of gold after breaking into the bank. The accused have been identified as Manpreet Singh (bank peon), Satnam Singh and Jarnail Singh Jaila. Police have recovered Rs 9 lakh and 14 packets of gold. TNS

BSF recovers 2.5 kg heroin from border outposts

Ferozepur: Sleuths of 136 Battalion of the BSF on Wednesday recovered 2.5 kg of heroin, worth Rs 12.5 crore, during a search operation. A packet of heroin, weighing 960 gm, was recovered from the Satpal border outpost (BOP) and another two packets of heroin, weighing 1.5 kg, were recovered near the New Mohammadi Wala BOP during a search operation which was carried out following inputs. Half-burnt body of 15-yr-old girl recovered 

Sangrur: The police have recovered the half-burnt body of a minor girl, who had been missing since April 22 evening, from near Gobindpura Chathe village. The police suspect that the victim was kidnapped, raped, murdered and later the accused tried to burn her body also. The 15-year-old victim belonged to Gulad village of Patiala district. She worked as an employee of a beauty parlour at Khanauri. TNS

Bains accuses officer of taking bribe

Ludhiana: Lok Insaaf Party chief Simarjit Singh Bains has accused the Additional Director, Factories, Punjab, MP Beri of taking bribe from an industrialist for approval of an industry map here on Wednesday. Bains claimed to have caught Beri for allegedly taking bribe at a hotel in Ludhiana. He alleged that Beri took bribe from Gurmit Pal Singh, who had applied for the approval of an industry map. However, Beri denied the allegations. “I have not taken bribe from anyone. The money was forcefully put in my pocket to defame me,” he said. TNS

60-year-old kills teenaged wife 

Moga: A 19-year-old woman was on Wednesday allegedly murdered here by her 60-year-old husband. The deceased has been identified as Gurpreet Kaur of Moga. She was married to Om Parkash of Gurdaspur about three months back. Om Parkash told the woman's family that he was a UK citizen and would take her along with him to London. After marriage, he started living with her wife at her parental house here. In the wee hours on Wednesday, Om Parkash allegedly murdered his wife and ran away from his in-laws house. TNS
