Bathinda, November 8

Irked over the registration of the cases against farmers on stubble burning, members of BKU (Ekta Ugrahan) today staged protests outside various police stations in the district.

The police have also registered 43 more cases against the farmers in the last two days in the district.

Union members said they vehemently condemned cases registered against them and also demanded that these be cancelled at the earliest. Otherwise, they would be forced to intensify their agitation in the coming weeks, they said.

Farmers also gave a thumbs down to Rs 100 per acre subsidy, which the Supreme Court had directed the state government to pay. BKU (Ekta Ugrahan) district president Shingara Singh Mann said, “Rs 100 per acre is very less as we are demanding Rs 200 per acre bonus for the last many years and if it will be given, then there will be no problem of stubble burning.”
