Faridkot, July 31

To intensify their agitation against the state government for its alleged failure in completing the probe into the Behbal Kalan police firing incident of 2015 and not taking the sacrilege cases to a logical conclusion, the Insaaf Morcha on Sunday gave a call to the Sikhs to unfurl the saffron flag at their houses across the state on August 15, as a symbol of protest.

Morcha members made this announcement after they held a meeting at Behbal Kalan today. Meanwhile, Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan, the ruling party MLA from Kotkapura, came to attend the meeting and requested the morcha members to give the state government some time for completing the probe. However, the morcha members rejected his request. The members also announced to start a ‘sehaj path’ at the dharna site in Behbal Kalan on August 1. They said on August 16, with the bhog of the “path”, they would start a statewide agitation.

Earlier on July 24, after the completion of the 15-day deadline sought by the state government to complete its probe into the Behbal Kalan case, the morcha had also rejected Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains’ proposal seeking more time.

Victim’s son seeks removal of A-G

Sukhraj Singh, son of Krishan Bhagwan Singh, who was killed in the Behbal Kalan police firing in 2015, criticised the appointment of Vinod Ghai as the state’s Advocate General (AG). “How can a person who was defending Sacha Sauda dera head’s cases in the court be appointed as the AG to further contest the state’s sacrilege cases in which the former was one of the prime accused?” Sukhraj said. “The AG’s removal is the first condition to continue our talks with the state,” he said.
