Behbal Kalan firing: Sukhbir Badal faces new legal woes over former Akal Takht Jathedar's statement

Legal and political trouble could significantly mount for Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal, following a crucial statement recorded by former Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Behbal Kalan police firing case.
Reports indicate that video recordings and corroborative documentation of Badal's confession and religious submissions were highlighted during the recording of the statement.
The former Jathedar reportedly stated before SIT that unarmed and innocent protesters were targeted under a conspiracy during the SAD regime.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also shared the social media post on their X handle and party spokesperson Baltej Pannu also made a reference of the incident and confessions of Sukhbir Singh Badal before the Akal Takht.
The Behbal Kalan police firing occurred in October 2015 during anti-sacrilege protests in Faridkot, Punjab, while the SAD-BJP coalition was in power. It resulted in the deaths of two Sikh protesters.
Hours after Giani Raghbir Singh recorded the statement before before the SIT, Sukhbir Badal hit out at him, alleging that he had been operating as a member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Badal was speaking while chairing a meeting of Halka youth wing presidents, SC wing and BC wing presidents.
"The main target is Sukhbir Singh Badal and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). They want to implicate me in a fake case of disproportionate assets case. In the case of missing saroops, the Chartered Accountant of my companies are being picked up. Neither am I afraid of these cases nor am I afraid of arrest. Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Singh Mann, call me after registering a case and I will appear before the police," said Sukhbir Badal.
