Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and state Finance Minister Harpal Cheema on Saturday appeared in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Aman Inder Singh here in a two-year-old case.

The court had granted exemption from appearance to state Minister for Information and Public Relations Aman Arora.

The case was registered against 10 AAP leaders, including Mann, Cheema and Arora, for allegedly pelting the police with stones in a demonstration held opposite the MLA hostel here on January 10, 2020.

The police registered the case for the offences committed under Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter the public servant from his duty), 147 (punishment for rioting) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of the offences committed in prosecution of common object).

The police claimed that the AAP workers instigated by their leaders threw stones on the police when they were stopped near the MLA hostel. The leaders were going towards the official residence of the Punjab chief minister when they were stopped due to imposition of Section 144 of the CrPC.

After submitting the challan, the court had issued summons to the AAP leaders in December 2021. Bhagwant Mann, Master Baldev Singh and some others had earlier been granted anticipatory bail by the court.

During the last hearing of the case, the court had allowed exemption to Mann and directed him to appear before it on August 6.
