Senior Akali leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia along with his wife MLA Ganieve Kaur Majithia paid obeisance at the Golden Temple this morning.
Accompanied by a large number of Akali workers, Majithia couple performed ‘thanksgiving’ ardas at the shrine and also paid obeisance at the Akal Takht. After this, they sat there to savour the Shabad Kirtan for some time.
Later, they offered ‘sewa’ of cleaning up the utensils at Sri Guru Ram Das Jee Langar Hall kitchen.
Majithia, who was behind the bars in an NDPS case, was granted bail by the Punjab and Haryana High Court recently.
He believed that he was a victim of the dirty politics and personal political enmity. He alleged that a conspiracy out of political rivalry was hatched at the then CM’s residence when two DGPs and four ADGPs were replaced to implicate him in the drug case, which was farce.
“Ask them (the then Charanjit Channi-led Congress government) which left no stone unturned to defame me while little realising its repercussions. How would they compensate for the nightmare and negative impact that had affected my elder parents, wife and minor children?,” he said.
He said that he had come to the Golden Temple to perform ‘shukrana ardas’ and seek blessings of the Almighty. “I am thankful to each and every person who prayed for me and it was due to their wishes that I got relief. The rousing welcome that I had received was overwhelming,” he said.
He also showed gratitude towards the people of Majitha and East constituency, where he had unsuccessfully contested against Congress candidate Navjot Singh Sidhu and AAP’s Jeevanjot Kaur.
“I didn’t get an opportunity to thank the people of both the constituencies, post-election results. At Majitha, the way Majitha residents showered their blessings on my wife Ganieve, who was a novice in politics, was testimony to the fact that it was nothing short of a one-side decisive mandate. Similarly, at the East constituency, the residents supported me convincingly, though I could not get through. My best greetings and wishes are with Jeevanjot Kaur and the AAP which has got 92 seats. I humbly say that the politics should be focussed on facilitating the welfare of the people, not for settling political enmity,” he said.
Majithia, who reached Amritsar last evening, also held meetings with the Akali leaders, including former MP Ranjit Singh Brahmpura.
