Local Bodies and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Brahm Mohindra today ridiculed BJP general secretary Tarun Chugh for claiming to appoint a Dalit Chief Minister if the party formed the government in the state.

Mohindra said the same BJP leaders could not get a Hindu Deputy CM appointed between 2007 and 2012 when they could have easily done so.

He pointed out in 2007, the SAD government was completely dependent on BJP’s support as the party won 19 of the 21 seats it had contested.

“Even then it could not assert itself to get a Hindu appointed as a Deputy CM and now the party has announced a Dalit CM when it has no existence in the state,” he said.

“The BJP has always claimed to espouse the cause of the Hindus, but when the party had a chance to get a Hindu CM appointed in Punjab, it compromised for petty interests,” said the minister. — TNS
