The BJP has intensified preparations for its ‘Badlav Rally’ in Moga on March 14, with party leaders holding meetings in all 117 Assembly segments of the state to mobilise workers and supporters for the event.

At the rally, which will be addressed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the party is expected to sound the poll bugle for the state poll next year. It will be held at Killi Chahlan village in Moga.

Sources said the BJP wanted to make it the biggest rally in the state in recent years.

“The party will hold its rally over 83 acres, which will include a ‘pandal’, parking area and langar venue. This is the same location where AAP recently held its Yudh Nashian Virudh event. Moga is centrally located in the state, which is why the party has chosen this place,” said Harjot Kamal, BJP’s Moga district president.

The BJP rally comes at a time when its former alliance partner SAD is holding segment-wise ‘Punjab Bachao’ rallies.

The Congress has organised ‘MGNREGA Bachao Sangram’ rallies, with the last one attended by Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi in Barnala. State BJP president Sunil Kumar Jakhar is scheduled to visit the rally site on Sunday to take stock of the preparations.

The party’s state working president Ashwani Sharma is also expected to visit the site on Monday.

Further, the police and district administration have also started making preparations in view of the security arrangements.

Former Finance Minister and senior BJP leader Manpreet Singh Badal, who held a meeting in Gidderbaha, said, “There are high hopes from the rally. It will set the political agenda for Punjab and show a new direction to the state. Only the BJP can bring the state out of the present situation.”

He claimed that during a recent AAP government function, buses were sent from villages but only about 15 people travelled in each bus, while people returned disappointed from a rally of the Congress after the leaders were reprimanded.
