BKU activists protest cases against combine owners

Activists of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ekta-Sidhupura) blocked the national highway on the Fazilka-Abohar road for three hours here today to protest registration of cases against combine owners in the Bhikhiwind area of Mansa district for not carrying out desired alterations in combines.

District president of the union Uday Singh Ghuriana said the cases were illegal and uncalled for and should be withdrawn immediately.

He warned that if the cases were not withdrawn they would intensify the stir. He called upon the farmers’ fraternity to join the national-level agitation to be started from January 30 in favour of the demand for implementation of recommendations of the Swaminathan report.

Ghuriana said the employees had been getting salaries as per the Seventh Pay Commission, but the government failed to implement the recommendations of any commission for the farmers.
