A suspected blast took place near a police post in Amritsar on Monday evening, the sixth such incident in the past two months.

The police, however, denied it. The fresh incident took place near the non-functional Fatehgarh Churian police post located on the Amritsar-Attari bypass road around 7.30 pm.

Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar reached the spot for a probe. He said, “There was some noise heard near the police post and they are verifying the incident”.

“A police team had laid a naka near the chowki, which has been closed down for the past year. The cops had heard the sound but they found nothing at that time. Further investigations are in progress,” he said, adding that had it been a hand grenade it would have made a huge impact on the road, which was not the case.

The people in the nearby locality said they heard a loud noise.

Sahil, a local resident, who had come to attend a function in a nearby resort said he was on the bypass road when he heard the sound.

Earlier, a similar incident had taken place outside the Gumtala post on January 9. Though the police at that time too had denied the occurrence of a blast, later they accepted it.
